August 3, 2021 update: Thank you for your book donations. We can’t accept any more donations at this time. We will accept donations again in January of 2022.

Everyone cleaned out their bookshelves during the pandemic. The Andersen Horticultural Library (AHL) would love to have those clean, good-quality books, CDs and DVDs for our annual Friends of the AHL book sale on October 1-3. The sale typically raises $10,000-12,000 for the library. Book, CD and DVD donations will be accepted through Sept. 4 Sept. 17 (Updated June 29, 2021).

The Friends group was formed in 1988. It’s a friendly group of Arboretum members who are interested in supporting the library. Members enjoy the five speakers per year the library arranges and early shopping at the Book Sale.  Membership is a bargain at $15 per household per year.

To donate your books (no text books or magazines, please):

-Pre-register and get an e-ticket to enter the Arb.  Non-members must pay the gate fee when they register (even just to drop off books). After dropping off books, enjoy the gardens!

-If you’re dropping materials off Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., call 612-301-1239 and library staff will help you unload. If you have just a few bags or boxes, park for a minute in front of the Snyder Building to carry them in. If you have more, pull up to the Snyder Building loading dock (enter the staff parking lot, stay to your right, the door is just past the dumpsters).

-If you’re coming at a different time, go to the Snyder Building loading dock, push the intercom button to get into the building. There’s a cart just inside to the right for book donations. If you’d like an acknowledgement letter for taxes, leave your name and address and number of bags/boxes.

We’d love to have your donations!

Thanks. I wasn’t aware of donations to the book sale.

Being seniors with physical challenges we will have to figure out someone to take our books etc to you. We live in Minneapolis- Tangletown. In the meantime we can begin to sort etc… (it will take a couple of months.)

Hello Ms. Sommer. I live in South Minneapolis just off the parkway. I am a member at the Arboretum, so I visit quite often. I would be happy to help get your items to the Arboretum. Anything for the marvelous AHL, right? Let me know if you’d like assistance.

Re: the comment of Ms Sommer’s, above. I have lots of classical CDs, and art books, as well as botanical drawing books. Getting way out to the Arb is a challenge. Have to figure this out.
